Ok, bloggerer's, what is it we're supposed to be doing...

Ok, blogger's, what is it we're supposed to be doing this week? Blog for peace? Blog against religions, I mean theocracy? Create more misunderstandings and chaos in a world already overwhelmed by it? Gee, I'm not sure. I guess I could look up a bunch of big words and write what looks like the most boring thesis in the world, but I don't really feel like it.

I could find the most disgusting video out there that portrays Christ as a cross-dresser high on LSD, getting hit by a train, and that somehow will encourage people to vote for Congressmen and Senators who will uphold the Separation of Church and State. Which is basically why all the crap from other countries ended up here in the first place. They wanted freedom of worship. The very first governing colonies burned your ass if your neighbors cow died cause you looked at him cross-eyed. Remember? I think we've come a good ways in the right direction.

I want anyone who reads this to list the personal freedoms they have lost, they no longer possess as a direct result of Christianity in this nation. And back it up, with a description of why you lost this freedom, and the new law that made you lose it. Maybe we should start the ole throw the Christian to the Lions thing back up. It worked pretty good for Nero. Think of the money they would rake in on pay per view.

The problem is not Christians. The problem is not Muslims, or Buddhists, or Hindu's, or any other religion. The problem is not faith, but I do have to wonder at young men willing to blow themselves to pieces for the promise of x amount of virgins. That's a work incentive I really have to think about. The problem is voting for the person you think is going to represent your best interests in Congress and in the Senate. We can all whine and dance, and wear hair shirts, practicing self-flagellation on regular basis, but it won't get us anywhere until we learn to monitor what our elected officials are doing. I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt, and assume that you are quite capable of finding these sites yourself.

Here's another shocker. George Bush is not going to get impeached. He should. I would love to see it. But it ain't going to happen. I remember all of the backlash I got when I posted on a message board that I voted for Al Gore way back when. You'd thought I'd shot the Pope or something. Of course, in light of current sentiment, that might, in some circles, be a good thing. I don't see it that way, but to each his own.

What's really really weird is if you read the Bible, the parts in the New Testament where Jesus says you will persecuted in my namesake, meaning, people are going to call you assholes and stupid, and think your nuts cause you believe in me, well, all these anti-religion
blogger's are almost fulfilling a prophecy. I say almost, because I don't know. I could be interpreted that way.

This country is founded on the sole basis of Freedom to Worship. The founding fathers added a clause to the constitution that separated church and state, so the government couldn't burn witches at the stake anymore. The government couldn't say, "Ok, from now on, all you guys are going to be Catholics, and any protestants will be rounded up and shot on site." That's it. And, also, so one religious group couldn't come up and add strange words to the preamble or pledge of allegiance, or shit like that. Like, "I pledge allegiance to the flag, and to the rock of ages on which it stands, so sayeth the holy voodoo witchdoctor, and to the Republic for which it stands," etc... The words under God, were added by Eisenhower, and have caused all sorts of ruckus since. Now, no one is required to recite the pledge.

As for Global Warming, Sting has been in the fray since the late 1980's, when the mass destruction of the Amazon Rain forest began. One thing you can do about global warming is to plant a tree.

And not one to break with tradition, I will also include a video with this post. It should be eye-catching, controversial, funny in a warped and insensitive sort of way, so let's see what I can find.

You mean you think you know that's what Jesus meant, right? George Bush knows what God's will is, because God "talks to him." Funny that God doesn't clue the other three hundred million Americans in on what his will is. Seems like it'd make things a lot easier all around.

That's strange. The preamble to the Constitution I studied says the following:
We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

Then too, there was the matter of taxation without representation. Yet, later in your post, you wrote, regarding religion:

I don't understand what you mean by "all the other crap....", but I'm fearful of the insinuation I hear from that: "Only Christianity is NOT crap."

I have been, as have millions of others. That's EXACTLY why I'm anti-religion. Until religion learns it's not a political weapon, it's not an excuse for wars, it's not a justification for criminal acts, then it needs to be contained, shoved in a dark corner, and silenced.

The problem is not Christians.
Nooooo Kidding!!! I already knew that. Looong ago! It's right here. But I also knew that 45 years ago, during my forced incarceration in Fundamentalism.

You never did define what a "Christian" is, and what is "Christianity." Does the label define the person, or does the person define the label? You never defined "Religion." Does it encompass the criminal Muslim religion, or just your approved list of religions? You see, there is a group of cultists who have our country in a strangle hold, and they're killing it. They label themselves "Christians." Are they? Not by any definition of a Christian that I've ever heard or read. They are killing thousands of people - in the name of Christianity, claiming God is on their side! If that's true, that "God" is on their side - then God can go straight to hell!!

It's obvious, that you wrote this post while in a bit of a snit. But it's just as obvious, that you spoke from the heart. In this post, I wrote: "ALL parties would benefit from drawing in their nails, and taking a deep breath." In that same post's comments you wrote: "Right now, I swear, if certain people walked up to my door, there'd be some eye-scratching going on.

That's exactly what's going on right now, only it's progressed far beyond eye scratching. But you have a similarity with that group - you want to use violence to make sure YOUR view is followed, and that all dissent was silenced. That's exactly what I'm fighting, and why I'm fighting, and why I'm willing to fight to the death.

I'd like to respectfully ask you not visit my blog anymore, and it will be with deep regret, that I no longer visit yours.

But If I did, all I'd ever see is this post.

At some point, I would just hope that people would come to understand what religion actually is, and not declare it to be something it isn't.

I want rationality in government. Not superstition.

Future, Just for my own peace of mind, since you have decided not to come back, I will answer some of your observations...

Evidently my comment didn't meet with your approval. Why some are allowed to show anger and others are not, is beyond me. Would I literally scratch someone's eyes out? No. You got me there. Ok, the part about prophecy, this is what I wrote:

For those not in the know, here is what fundamentalists believe:

1. the inerrancy of the Bible,
2. the Virgin birth,
3. physical resurrection,
4. atonement by the sacrificial death of Christ, and
5. the Second Coming."

What became the USA was founded by people seeking religious freedom from European Countries. Like the pilgrims. These pre-revolutionary governments were not based on ideals but ususally religious doctrine. So, as I said, we have made some progress.

Do I need to define Christians? Doesn't the word itself drive some people to just picture fire and brimstone? Christians by definition are those who believe that Christ is the Messiah and has risen, and by his blood, the ultimate sacrificial lamb, we are all saved. That is the basis of Christianity. In the simplest terms. Which is my specialty, as I have no college degree, no long string of letters after my name. So simple is what you will get. If you have a bunch of better words to that would sound better, by all means, help yourself.

If you are, indeed, monitoring what is happening in the Senate and choosing your candidates accordingly, then that's great. No one wants a government based on religion. I don't think that is what this country is looking for.

What I don't understand is the extreme intolerance that the anti-religion bloggers have for anyone who disagrees with them, or one of their fellow bloggers.

Yeah, I've left a few heated comments, but I'm not the only one, and this post is pretty much tongue and cheek, if you read it closely. There's more than a tad of sarcasm in here.

You did catch me good on the Habeous Corpus, and my hats off to you.

I am extremely sorry you will not visit my blog anymore, and I will, of course, respect your wishes 100% but not visiting yours. I have no wish to remind you of this post.

You know, what's weird, is, I really didn't think anyone could make me cry again. I thought I had gotten tough enough where it wouldn't happen. But, damn, I got to give it to you. You pushed the right buttons.

But, whatever the case, I'll be thinking of you, and wishing you the best. Always.

I didn't write this from my heart, and I didn't write this in anger. Actually, I wrote it feeling somewhat playful.

My own religious beliefs are mine. I view the bible as a group of stories, teaching tools, so to speak. My favorite part of the bible is the Sermon on the Mount. It is beautiful, and profound.

I watched a video on another blog that featured the infamous church in Kansas that has a penchant for protesting funerals of fallen soldiers of the Iraq war. They protested my son's funeral. The church is made up of family members. They were glad, rejoiced, that my son was killed by an I.E.D. device. They sent me an email shortly after his death telling me so.

But this is their freedom, in this country. Their freedom to worship as they see fit. Do I consider them Christians? No. Christ is about love and compassion, giving, helping, healing. He is not about hate.

Did I know what I was going to be watching before I clicked play? No. I was half-way threw the video before I saw the sign that said, Thank God for I.E.D's. Did I leave a nasty comment? Yes. Would I do it again? Yes. I felt blind-sided. I thought I would be watching something different. Something worth watching. Does anyone realize how many American soldiers, marines, corpsmen have been killed by I.E.D. devices? Do they even care?

I have a shit-load of faults. I am an imperfect creature. But, if I have willingly hurt someone, I would own up to it at once. I can be an asshole just as good as the next person, and have been on many occasions.

So, if I have hurt you in some way, shape or form, tell me. Send me an email, let me know, and I'll do my best to make it right. It may be that I cannot, but at least telling me about it might help.

We all have our personal beliefs, and one of the best things I find out here in this community of ours, is the many different debates, viewpoints and interests we can freely exchange.

Its been my experience, Carol, that nothing in this life is a given. There are no guarantees. There are very, very few people that I call friend. I know many people, and enjoy their company, but a friend is something very rare. A friend is someone you turn to when no one else is there.

Friends watch you make total fools of yourselves, help you pick up the pieces, and carry your ass back home. Friends laugh with you cry with you, forgive you, yell at you, scold you, advise you, and just sit with you. A friend never ever turns their back on you. No matter what.

That is a friend. And if you are lucky enough to have someone like that in your life, then, you are indeed blessed. And I am happy for you.

i was going to post a response to your comment on my bat post- and the subsequent posts. but it wouldn't change anything. i don't hate- contempt isn't hate. religion makes me feel contempt. not hate. never once have i advocated any of the things you mentioned- tongue in cheek- i don't want people to die over religion anymore. that's my point. so- that's that.

Betmo, point taken. I usually stay away from blog, as you outspoken in your beliefs. But a few people were upset by your video and I had to check it out for myself. And, I stand behind what I said. Everytime that video is played, it is giving exposure and credit to a group of people who are bigots, hatemongers, and quite frankly, evil. But, have no fear. I will not visit your blog again. I support your right to say what you will, that is your freedom, but there is nothing there that I can't find on a thousand other blogs saying the same rhetoric over and over and over again. Call me whatever you want to, I really don't care. Your opinion of me means nothing.

And, I sincerely hope, with every drop of blood in my body, that you never feel how I did when I watched your video. Never would I wish that on anyone. Never.

I have absolutely no idea what her point in showing the video was. All I know is this: the group loves attention, good, bad, any kind whatsoever, and they would be overjoyed to know that it has been viewed by anyone. Just the name of the Church's website, "God Hates Fags" says a whole lot about their philosophy. The group is basically anti-government, believing that the US tried to blow their church up. So, that is their excuse for endorsing I.E.D. devices.

I went to Future's website for the last time and removed my offensive comment, and will remove my offensive comments from Betmo's as well. Seems dissenters are not welcome, and if they come back and say a bunch of crap about that statement, then we'll both know they're full of it, because if you aren't in agreement on this issue, you might as well keep your mouth shut. But what is amazing is that I don't think anyone wants religion in government, everyone wants separation of church and state, and the only way to do that is vote. Unless you want a full scale revolution, and quite frankly, I don't think that's going to happen. Just my opinion. I can have one too, you know. I got me some freedom of speech. And religion. Just like every body else.

You know I heard through certain sources, that the guy who set the I.E.D. that resulted in my son's death was captured, and I thought, what if someone had given me a gun, and told me to do what ever I wanted, would I have killed him? Shot him in the head, took his life without remorse, and for a long time, I thought I would. But now, I don't think so. What would it solve? What would it prove? It won't bring him back. It wouldn't change a thing. In some ways that is a tremendous relief.

I feel quite close to you Deb. I think it's because I have a son, too. He's 26 and lives in Australia. I knew when he waved goodbye at the airport over a year ago that I would never know him again in the same way. He seemed so young when he left and now he's a stranger. Some days I can't bear it. I miss him so much. Dammit. Can you please pass the crying towel?

Babzy, when both of my boys left home, I cried like a crazy person. I switched to toilet paper a while ago. It lasts longer, its just as soft, and if you have to make it a pit stop, you can wipe your nose and wipe your ass at the same time. HA! (but don't use the same piece of toilet paper) cheer up, todays a new day, a clean slate, as it were, and life tumbles on.

To tell you the truth, if someone had come here and said, Justme, you totally misinformed stupid slut you, I could have dealt with that a lot easier, than "respectfully ask you not visit my blog anymore". In the net world, that's like saying, get the hell out of my house and stay out. Well, sort of. But then he left me a link to his latest post, which I don't know what it says, cause I can't go back and read it cause I was kicked out. I got kicked out of the navy exchange for inappropriate dress one time, and that just made me mad.

Betmo and TUA can write in their blogs whatever they see fit to write. They can march down the street buck naked as far as I'm concerned, and if they call me, I might even try to scare up some bail money. Though, I doubt they would call me. But, like all tempests in teapots, this too shall pass, and the world will continue to turn on its axis. Today is a new day, so lets rejoice in that. There's always hope, you know. As long as one person has love in their heart, hope lives. Yeah!

Betmo posted the Phelps video to illustrate her point (perhaps redundantly) that ugliness and ideology - in this case, a belief in God - so frequently go hand-in-hand.

I don't believe any of you actually thought betmo was aligning herself with the Phelps. Suggesting as much is making an argument for the sake of argument.

Our government is a reflection of us. Religious ideology has infiltrated all of its branches because those of us on the outside allow it a safe haven and breeding ground within our culture.

The phenomenon of this modern-day religious ascendancy is proof that tolerating "God" in adult discussion the way we have and to the extent we have has become dangerous.

When we didn't have the science, or the literacy rates, or the leisure time to devote to abstract thought, religious tolerance was an admirable value. But today, that value is being used against us by a profoundly regressive and increasingly sinister movement.

You can not reasonably blog FOR the continuation of the same kind of religious tolerance we're used to and rail AGAINST ideology as manifest in our government. We're at a crossroads. You have to choose, which is what betmo has done.

If you have missed her point - in any of her anti-religion diatribes - it is because you have wanted to.

taryn, Since I am not a mind-reader, I have no idea why Betmo posted her video featuring the 'infamous church'. All I know is that these church members would come up to her and shake her hand for showing that video no matter what her reasoning. That's just the way they do things. They are about as "Christian" as a bag of hammers, and it shouldn't take a college education to see that. Actually they are one of the main reasons the Patriot Guard Riders came into existence. A greater group of individuals I have yet to encounter. Talk about doing something for peace. This guys don't set around and blah, blah, they are out there everyday. Voluntarily. Without regard to politics, religion, or anything, except respect.

I admire your defense of Betmo, but don't come here and tell me what I should believe, what I should be doing, and when. The only thing I have to do is live and die. Everything else is pretty much optional.

Wow, it amazes me that Betmo has people coming here in her defence. Whatever I said, must have hit a nerve, or else this post would have been ignored.

This is how you describe Betmo's writings, not me. I just disagree. Maybe a little too strongly, but I disagree. That is my right.

I'm not going to censure anyone on their religious beliefs, or lack thereof, as that is their freedom. Just don't tell me I'm stupid for believing what I believe. Because, doing that is stupid. It breeds resentment and all sorts of crazy shit.

And as adults, we should have learned that much by now. I have reread my own post, twice now, and if anyone who reads it cannot see the sarcasm and let's poke fun at the whole crazy mess attitude in it, then they just don't want to.

As for MY comment, it would be the same one basically that I left with Babzy, on her page yesterday. In a nutshell, I said that scummy bastards like those of this so-called "church" that "the good reverend Phelps" operates, survive only by feeding off the publicity- frenzy they create with their "eccentric" beliefs. If, by some miracle, one could IGNORE them, and their smear-tactics, they would soon die on the vine, and become a part of history's finest anarchists of the past. But then, we BOTH know that will never happen---today's media will see to that!

And as I told Babzy, concerning the actions of this "church": "Sorry, but it'll get WORSE before it gets BETTER. I've experienced it up-close and personal, in the past. It ALWAYS gets that way, during a war of attrition like this one has turned into. Once the early-on, "gung-ho, U.S.A.!" cheerleaders get tired of "cheering" for FREE...Sorry!"

I don't use smelling salts anymore. I use Mr. Clean, straight from the bottle. Sometimes it makes you feel really good.

Yes, I believe he's calling us nuts. Alas, it won't be the first time for me.

(Just between you and me, I have a little crush on him myself. I think he probably has a lot of chest hair, and most likely has very large feet, too. I've heard that's a good sign, for what, I don't know, but it must mean he has a big heart.)

No one told you what to believe, not me, not anyone.

I only pointed out that *you* have created controversy simply for the sake of doing so, and had you not littered betmo's blog with your perfectly irrational comments (since removed, good for you), I wouldn't have found my way over here.

taryn, I haven't heard the word troll since I stopped visiting aol. I can comment in my blog a million times, since it is mine. I guess that bothers you for some reason. Why, I don't know.

Evidently, the only post you have read in this blog is the one you have commented on. Which doesn't surprise me at all.

I have not created any controversy other than exercise my right to free speech.

But, tell me something, if Betmo says jump, do you say how high? You have your little forums over there where you can discuss all the bad ignorant people in the world who don't agree with you, so why come back here? Especially since you find me to be such a worrisome creature at best? Didn't you really come back just cause you got mad at what I said to you?

Which, in a way is so laughable. Its like you want to hurt me, or make me feel bad or ashamed. Well, the truth is, there is absolutely nothing you can say, that's going to make me feel that way. Even though what TUA said hurt, it wasn't for long. And, Betmo, I removed my comments out of respect for her. I don't know why, God knows she has none for me. But, that's just the way I am.

But, Taryn, we can go back and forth like this for as long as you want, that's up to you, but it grows so tiresome, and boring, and it really does nothing for peace, now does it?

I am curious though. What exactly would you call an adult conversation? Is it one in which you have the last word? Is it one in which everyone, says, yeah, I agree 100% with everything you just said. Is it one where everyone laughs at the same jokes, and cannot or will not laugh at themselves? Perhaps we differ in what we call adult conversation.

Yes, that's it! We disagree, and you know, that's ok! As a matter of fact, its ok if you dislike me intensely, or ignore me, or don't even think of me at all.

Its ok! Cause the good Lord knows I don't think about you at all. Which I am sorry for. The only reason I knew you had left a comment is cause I have that email thing turned on. I turned it on when I first started this blog, cause, well, I was all excited, and couldn't wait to see who would respond. There are a few people out there whose blogs I read regularly and I do care about their opinions.

Of course, yours is not one of them.

Feel free to comment as many times as you like. I will not answer anymore. But, by all means, if it makes you feel better, relieves tension, gives you that extra feeling of superiority that so many crave, knock yourself out. Maybe next time, you can come up with a real gut-wrenching zinger that will just knock me on my ass. But, keep in mind, I'm just a tad bit tougher now.
